On December 4, 2017, something transformative, transcending and powerful turned my entire life upside down. It was in the midst of this transformation (which at the time was painful and confusing) that the idea for this blog began to take shape. I was in emotional, physical, and mental pain and I was learning new and raw lessons every day; lessons about loneliness, single-motherhood, grief, rebuilding, friendship, strength, resilience and power. I began to realize that while my story is unique and solely mine, it’s a story that has been told in many ways, countless times, through generations, and across continents. It transcends race, class, sex, and the passage of time.
What I am asking from you is not easy, because it may involve you to share something about yourself that you think is painful or shameful and you may fear rejection, judgment or criticism. However, our stories, our lives, our past journeys have already been lived by us and most certainly by countless others. And for me, there is no shame in that, but rather, power and healing from telling our own stories and hearing the messages of resilience and spirit in the stories of others. What I desire from the creation of this site, is a place to finally bear our full raw and untold stories, a place to find peace and healing from hearing the stories of another’s journey and to leave a well-worn path for those who may experience something similar in the future.
Forever your villager,
Vanessa
